Downtown Elton, La.
Welcome! I would like to personally thank you for visiting the official homepage of the Sovereign Nation of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.
We are a federally recognized Native American Tribe with approximately 910 members. The Coushatta people live primarily in Louisiana, with the majority living in Allen Parish, just north of the town of Elton, Louisiana, and east of Kinder, Louisiana. We have a long and proud history and we have called the piney woods of Southwest Louisiana home for more than a century. Historically, we were known as agriculturalists, and we are widely recognized for our skill at longleaf pine needle basketry.
Through much of the last three decades, we’ve focused on business development and investments in order to provide revenue for our Tribe and jobs for community members. Chief among these enterprises is the Coushatta Casino Resort, which opened in 1995 and has grown into the second largest private employer in the state of Louisiana. The Tribe also operates a variety of smaller business enterprises, as well as health, educational, social and cultural programs, that have a tremendous economic and social impact on the Tribal and surrounding communities.
We hope you take the time to explore this website and learn more about our people, our heritage and our numerous business initiatives.
